Azorica

Azo came to us with a broken spine and very little chance of recovery, but today he can walk and run again.

Azo was found after being hit by a car and spending an entire day in a ditch with a fractured spine, at -14 degrees Celsius.

During the first few weeks, we saw almost no signs of improvement. Azo spent his time lying down, he was incontinent and needed to be washed several times a day. After weeks in which his condition seemed to remain unchanged, we came very close to making the decision to put him to sleep.

And then, just when we needed to make that decision, Azo lifted himself up on his two front legs for the first time. It wasn’t much, but it was enough to show us that it wasn’t time to give up on him yet.

We decided to continue. Azo underwent spinal surgery followed by physiotherapy, and his recovery went far beyond what we dared to hope for. Slowly, he started getting up, then walking, and today he can run and enjoy an almost normal life.

He remains incontinent, but it doesn’t seem to bother him much. For us, it simply means a lot more cleaning. 😄

He gets along well with dogs and cats, but he is anxious around people he doesn’t know and needs time to build trust.

Realistically, Azo is unlikely to ever find another home, and Dumbrava will most probably remain his home. He can, however, be supported through distance adoption, helping us continue to provide everything he needs.
